This mine, which produces the coal requirements for the Kangal Thermal Power Plant (457 MW), is located 30 km from the Kangal district. The mine site, licensed to Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. (Electricity Generation Corporation), has been operated by Demir Export A.Ş. since 1989 under a long-term agreement.

At the Kalburçayırı section, production still continues from two seams, each 7 meters thick on average. The overburden thickness on the upper seam is 42 meters and the interburden between the two seams is 20 meters thick. The stripping amount of the overburden and interburden is approximately 30,000,000 m3 annually for an annual coal production of 6 million tons to meet the demands of the thermal power plant.

The machinery at the Kangal Coal Mine is selected according to state-of-the-art technology, having the largest capacity of any machinery currently used in Turkey.
